Фреската што го оживува духот на Илинден во хотел Монтана

“The idea for that fresco was born there, on that very day – Ilinden – and I created it as a protest against the fact that Ilinden was then just an ordinary working day. At that time, it was believed that the history of Macedonia began on 11th October 1941. I created this first fresco in Macedonia, which received great publicity. That means: the fresco was made in 1950. As soon as I returned from Krushevo, I began working on it, and it was exhibited at DLUM on 29th November 1950.”
– Excerpt from the diary of the great Macedonian artist Borko Lazeski.

“With heartfelt reverence for the events of 1903, the artist recreated his masterpiece once again in 1991, adorning the walls of the ‘Montana’ Hotel in Krushevo with a faithful reproduction of the 1950 fresco. Executed in acrylic, measuring 260 × 458 cm, this monumental artwork breathes new life into the timeless narrative of the theme. In the heart of Krushevo – a town steeped in the rich mosaic of Macedonian history — the ‘Montana’ Hotel becomes a fitting canvas for reviving this crucial moment from the past. Against this backdrop, the artist’s brushstrokes awaken the spirit of resistance and endurance that define the Ilinden Uprising. Through the vivid hues and dynamic composition of the acrylic reproduction, the artist captures the very essence of Ilinden, inviting viewers to witness the courage and self-sacrifice of those who fought for freedom.”
